Summit League Swimming and Diving Gets Underway this Weekend

This weekend kicks off the beginning of the 2011-12 Summit League Swimming and Diving season as three teams are in action. Western Illinois hosts St. Louis Friday night, while Eastern Illinois' women head to Butler. On Saturday, WIU hosts Truman State and Oakland opens its season at Michigan State.

College Sports Madness Unveils Summit League Women's Basketball Preview

College Sports Madness (collegesportsmadness.com) has selected its preseason women's basketball all-league teams for The Summit League as the site continues the countdown to the 2011-12 season.

Oral Roberts’ Kevi Luper was tabbed as the league’s Player of the Year, Mid-Major Player of the Year and to the All-American Third Team by the publication. Luper, along with North Dakota State's Abby Plucker, are two Summit Leaguers listed on the preseason Mid-Major All-American Teams (link).

The site named ORU’s Jerry Finkbeiner as Coach of the Year and North Dakota State's Danielle Muri as Freshman of the Year.

Luper, Plucker, Oral Roberts' Jaci Bigham, Oakland's Bethany Watterworth and IPFW's Stephanie Rosado were the site’s first team all-league selections.  The second team was comprised of IPFW's Anne Boese, Oakland's Sharise Calhoun, IUPUI's Kerah Nelson, Oral Roberts' Jordan Pyle and South Dakota State's Jennie Sunnarborg (link).

College Sports Madness has listed Oral Roberts among its Top 44 countdown ranked No. 38 nationally (link).

WIU's Ryan Nets Additional Recognition


Western Illinois goalkeeper Andy Ryan added an additional award to his Summit League Defensive Player of the Week accolade. The senior captain was named as the SoccerSavings.com/Chicagoland Soccer News ‘Men’s College Player of the Week’ after recording a pair of shutout victories.

College Sports Madness Picks Its Preseason All-Summit Teams

College Sports Madness (collegesportsmadness.com) has selected its preseason all-league teams for The Summit League as the site continues the countdown to the 2011-12 season.
Oral Roberts’ Dominique Morrison was tabbed as the league’s player of the year and is one of two Summit Leaguers listed as a preseason Mid-Major All-American. Morrison was selected to the third team while Oakland’s Reggie Hamilton was named to the fourth team (link).

The site named ORU’s Scott Sutton as Coach of the Year and Oakland’s Corey Petros as Freshman of the Year.

Morrison, Hamilton, IPFW’s Frank Gaines, South Dakota State’s Nate Wolters and IUPUI’s Alex Young were the site’s first team all-league selections.  The second, third and fourth teams can be viewed on the College Sports Madness website by clicking here.

College Sports Madness listed a trio of Summit League teams among its Top 144 countdown, led by Oral Roberts at No. 74 (link). Oakland placed No. 107 (link) and IUPUI was No. 114 (link).

Former ORU Standouts Among 21 Players on Pan American Games Training Camp Roster

A pair of former Oral Roberts men's basketball players are attempting to make the 2011 Pan American Games roster. Moses Ehambe (2008 ORU graduate) and Marcus Lewis (2009 ORU graduate) are both listed on the training camp roster, which currently includes 21 players but will be trimmed to 12 during the camp, which will be from October 14-22 at the Tulsa Convention Center. Tulsa 66ers Coach Nate Tibbetts will be the coach for the team.
