Women's Soccer Exhibition Scoreboard (Aug. 20)

North Dakota State 2, Bemidji State 0
FARGO, N.D. -- (gobison.com) The North Dakota State Bison women's soccer team opened

the Dacotah Field era in style Tuesday, Aug. 20 in their 2013 home opening exhibition match against Bemidji State, claiming a convincing 2-0 win over the visiting Beavers. Lauren Miller had a goal and assist while Lizzie Lukas scored a goal for the second consecutive match.

Miller scored North Dakota State's first goal in the 29th minute after blasting the ball from 25 yards out to the lower right corner of the net. It also marked her first goal of the young season.

Lukas added another goal just five minutes later in the 34th minute when she corralled a short but precise pass in the box from Miller and slid it home to make it 2-0 Bison.

SDSU's Hodges Named Summer League Pitcher of the Year

South Dakota State University right-hander Chad Hodges was named Horizon Air Summer Series Pitcher of the Year during the recently completed collegiate summer league season.

Pitching for the Humboldt (Calif.) Crabs, Hodges compiled a 7-0 record with a 2.46 earned run average in helping the team win its third consecutive Far West League Championship. He struck out 55 batters and walked only 18 in 62 innings pitched.

Omaha's Sami Spenner Breaks Heptathlon Record to Help U.S. Win Thorpe Cup

Sami Spenner broke her own school record in the heptathlon for the second time this year, helping the USA Track & Field team to a win in the annual Thorpe Cup competition between the U.S. and Germany.

The meet features seven women from each country competing head-to-head in the heptathlon and seven men each in the decathlon.

Spenner finished with 5,898 points, beating her previous record of 5,806 to finish fourth overall in the field of 12 athletes. The American women had the top five finishers. The men's team lost to the Germans.

Five Summit League men’s soccer teams took to the pitch to open exhibition play this past weekend. Among the highlights was Omaha's record crowd of over 2,500 to see its contest against defending Big Ten co-champion Penn State.

Women's Soccer Exhibition Scoreboard (Aug. 18)

VERMILLION, S.D. -- Jenny Teslow scored an early goal and freshman Corey Strang netted two goals in a span of four minutes as South Dakota won an exhibition match against Viterbo 3-0 Sunday at USD Soccer Complex. It is the Coyotes’ lone tune-up prior to Friday’s season and home opener against Loyola.

Kansas 1, Omaha 0
LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The UNO women's soccer team played its second and final exhibition match on Sunday, falling at Kansas 1-0.

The Jayhawks scored the lone goal of the game on a penalty kick by Liana Salazar in the 20th minute. The Mavs attacked aggressively in the second half in search of an equalizer, registering all five of their shot attempts in the half, but couldn't tie the match.

HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. -- Coming into Saturday's (Aug. 17) exhibition match at Northern Kentucky, women's soccer Head Coach Chris Johnson had hoped for some offensive production and promised that a number of forwards would get their chances to shine. As a result, three different Jaguars dented the net as IUPUI rolled to a 3-1 road win at NKU. 

Fort Wayne 2, Western Michigan 2
FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Andie Lazzerini scored twice in just over a minute span, as the IPFW
Mastodons record a 2-2 exhibition draw with the Western Michigan Broncos at the Hefner Soccer Complex on Saturday evening.

Creighton 2, North Dakota State 1
ROSEMOUNT, Minn. -- The North Dakota State women's soccer team saw a 1-0 first half lead disappear in the second half as they fell to the Creighton Bluejays 2-1 in a season-opening exhibition match at Dakota County Technical College on Saturday, Aug. 17. Sophomore Lizzie Lukas scored the lone goal for the Bison.

DENVER -- The University of Denver women’s soccer fell 1-0 to Texas Tech University in an exhibition match on Saturday evening at CIBER Field at University of Denver Stadium.

Women's Soccer Exhibition Scoreboard (Aug. 16)

South Dakota State 10, Winnipeg 0
BROOKINGS, S.D. -- The South Dakota State women’s soccer team defeated the University of Winnipeg 10-0 in an exhibition contest on Friday night. Stacy Guijarro and Alexa Trakalo both recorded hat tricks in the game.
 
The format of the game consisted of one 45-minute period and two 25-minute periods.

Western Illinois  2, SIU Edwardsville 0
EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. -- Paula Prpich and Skyler Jessop provided a late spark for the Fighting Leathernecks on the way to a 2-0 victory over SIU-Edwardsville in the lone exhibition match of 2013.  

Both Western Illinois and SIU-Edwardsville tested the opposing goalkeeper early, but neither team was able to find the opening goal.

Women's Soccer Exhibition Scoreboard (Aug. 15)

Drake 3, Omaha 1
OMAHA, Neb. -- Drake scored twice in the final 12 minutes to earn a 3-1 win over the Omaha women's soccer team in an exhibition match on a dreary Thursday night at the UNO Soccer Field.

The Bulldogs got on the board first in the 22nd minute when Rhian Pritchard took advantage

of some space in the midfield and ripped a 30-yard shot into the upper left corner.

Seven minutes later at 28:55, UNO tied the match. Sarah Nordstrom beat a Drake player to a loose ball and touched it ahead to Chelsi Rohloff on the right. Rohloff got into the box and beat Drake keeper Andrea Swanson to the upper left corner to make it 1-1.

DETROIT, Mich. -- The Fort Wayne Mastodons picked up a 1-0 victory on the road in the team's exhibition opener, as Hailey Mariotti took a cross from the left off the foot of Maya Reyes for the match's only tally.

UNO's Wampler Selected to National All-Tournament Team


UNO women's soccer sophomore forward Hannah Wampler was named to the 2013 USYSA NationalChampionships Best 11 on Monday.

Wampler was the only player selected to the all-tournament team from her club team, LSC EGA Bravo, which won the Region II championship in July and placed fourth at the National Championships later that month.
